In tandem with the 2011 National Employee Wellness Month, Virgin HealthMiles awards its “Eye on Health” and “Healthies” awards. Here are the 2011 recipients.
The 2011 “Eye on Health” award recognizes an organization that acts as an outstanding wellness advocate and excellent role model for others.
Congratulations to The General Board of Pension and Health Benefits for the United Methodist Church (General Board), identified for its HealthFlex wellness program, part of the Center for Health.

…This Illinois-based organization, a not-for-profit administrative agency of The United Methodist Church (UMC), has a mission: help clergy and lay workers of the Church and their families stay healthy so they can continue to fulfill the Church’s global mission.
The General Board, which administers retirement, health, and welfare benefits plans, programs and funds for clergy and lay employees in the United States, has a strong organizational focus on wellness. “The people who are covered under our wellness program give generously of themselves 24/7,” said Kelly Wittich, Health and Wellness Program Manager for the General Board. “Whether our participants are working with people on happy days when they’re getting married or during more challenging occasions such as a funeral, they are constantly caring for others. Since we create stronger churches when our leaders take care of themselves, we sought to offer a comprehensive, results-focused wellness program.”
“The evidence is clear that physical activity has a huge impact on health and prevention. Our goal was to have a wellness program that could address that important area while connecting people across the country.”
- Kelly Wittich, Health and Wellness Program Manager,
General Board

The 2011 “Healthies” recognize individuals that have demonstrated overall excellence in improving their health. The Healthies celebrate the spirit of healthy behavior change taking place across the nation, and provide an opportunity for individuals to be recognized for their efforts to improve and maintain healthy lifestyles.
