June 2010 is the 2nd annual National Employee Wellness Month
National Employee Wellness Month brings awareness to the importance of creating healthier and more physically active communities in the workplace and the critical role a proactive approach towards wellness plays in reducing national healthcare costs. Created by Virgin HealthMiles in partnership with The Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, this annual initiative provides a vehicle for educating both employers and employees about the benefits of preventative health within the workplace. Following the success of last year’s National Employee Wellness Month, we are pleased to welcome a new sponsor, the Institute for Health and Productivity Management, to the program this year. In addition, National Employee Wellness Month has moved to June for its second annual year in efforts to continue building awareness and participation in the program. June is an ideal month for this program as it marks the mid-point of the year and is a meaningful milestone to reflect back on corporate and personal health goals.

Since I have a bad left knee it will take a lot for me to reach 7,000 in one day. My own personnal challenge is to take more steps each day. It may not seem like a lot to some people, but it means a lot to me.
This challenge to me is to make people more aware of how important one single step can be.

I have been trying to convince my company to implement a wellness program. We could use one! Initiatives like this one really help…so thanks to Virgin and STOP Obesity Alliance. This is great, and I’ll be sure to send this link along to my HR manager. Thanks again!

I am so glad my company made this program available for me. It is working out so great. It makes me more conscious of exercise.

I think employee wellness programs are very valuable – especially one that encourages physical activity. Having an employer make wellness a topic of conversation demonstrates commitment to their employees, encourages people to take control over their health, and can really boost morale. I’ve noticed more healthful activities from my own employees when we’ve made programs available to them in the past. I really think a month dedicated to employee wellness is a good move.

First Tennessee/First Horizon ranks at the top in employee appreciation in my opinion. Being with a company for 29 years that has been independent for over 100 years, in watching its development speaks volume. I am elated to be apart of this company in knowing that our executive management team are concerned about their employees wellness. It is great to see higher management taking part in the program as well. This program enhances our employees well being. What a better way to create happier and heathier life styles. As “Elvis” says Thank-You Very Much..

I am 62 years old and my doctor is very happy with me because I have lost weight and my cholesterol went way down. I owe this to the Virgin Healthmiles program and Ohiohealth for introducing me to this program.

I saw the interview on Fox Business today and was very impressed with the savings on insurance for companies who emphasize healthy living. I decided I need to become healthier and have committed to walking each day with my wife. Walking is worth it just for the improved communication. Perhaps you ought to see what the return is on happier marriages when you compute the financial benefits!
Onward with purpose,

This is a great program. On those days that I would rather skip a workout, I look at my pedometer and think, “I can easily complete 7,000 steps.” It’s made me more aware of what I eat and how much exercise I need to keep fit and healthy. The incentives are great, too!

I love this challenge. It is great that all we have to do is walk to get money for our charity!

I recently adopted two kittens from the local area Humane Society. Instead of being on the computer or sitting in front of the television, I now spend my time playing with my Pablo and Austin; and getting extra steps in the bargain. I never realized how fun and relaxing this type of excercise can be!

I love that healthy competition and wellness are topics of conversation among coworkers. Incentives, reminders, and support from work fuel me later at home with my daughter. We are seeking fitness oportunities, preparing healthier meals together, and keeping the activity level going into weekends. Exercise has given me confidence of strength in my body and mind. I am proud to take active responsiblity for the healthy future of my family. Wellness is now valued like homework, we practice it as part of our family’s education process.

I work at First Horizon Bank. I have really enjoyed this new health and fitness program a lot. What I have done that has helped me is getting up with the sun in the mornings and just walking/running in the breeze. I love to workout with a training tool dvd called Taebo! I have lost 18lbs!!! With eating right and exercising, you can get the results you want and look great! Thank you Theresa Romano

This has been great for me. We have had challenges within this challenge. My coworkers and I are excited about the program! We also do step classes to music!

I have really “stepped it up” and have been getting into great shape, since being a part of the Virgin HealthMiles program. With the Polar monitor and the pedometer, I can track my exercise accurately. I do mostly bicycle riding, and I have stepped up the mileage to get the full allowance of “steps”. With Virgin HealthMiles, I intend on being more active this winter, than in many winters past. Here’s to Virgin HealthMiles…. Salute!

I am glad my company offers this program. Since this is National Wellness Month and I got a year older this month, I challenge myself to being more active to prevent early aging.
